San Domenico Palace, the legendary hotel in Taormina, Sicily, enters a new era with its reopening this summer under the Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts brand

Perched on a hill, with views of the Ionian Sea as far as the eye can see, and the presence of Mount Etna, the legendary hotel will soon be reborn as San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel. “This hotel is truly the jewel in the crown of our historic properties in the Mediterranean region and a perfect complement to our hotels in Milan and Florence,” says Simon Casson, President, Hotel Operations, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “San Domenico Palace is a legend in the European hotel industry and we are honored to welcome this hotel to our collection on its 125th anniversary.”

Returning to his native country after his last position at Four Seasons in Dubai and a career that took him around the world, General Manager Lorenzo Maraviglia is leading the team that is writing the new chapter in the history of San Domenico Palace. “We are thrilled to reopen this summer, during the high season in Taormina, to welcome our guests for a unique Sicilian experience. The exceptional of Taormina are located at the foot of the hotel, such as the ancient Greek theater. Many other places of interest, walks inland, the Isola Bella and Grotta Azzura, or a yacht trip are just a few of the are just a few of the many experiences we plan for our guests.”

Built on the site of a former 14th century Dominican convent, San Domenico Hotel opened in 1896 with a new Italian Liberty-style building (now the Grand Hotel Wing) juxtaposed with old quarters converted to accommodations within the Old Convent Wing. It quickly became a stop on the “Grand Tour,” frequented by royalty and nobles as well as many artists, authors and Hollywood stars who stayed there. In the heart of flourishing Italian gardens overlooking the sea overlooking the sea, the hotel combines modern art, antiques and architectural relics. With only 111 rooms and suites (some with private terraces and pools), the hotel remains intimate. Guests will also find a spa, fitness center and infinity pool.
